Sport

Provision for physical education and sport has improved considerably at Bysing Wood Primary School in recent years.

Taking part in PE and school sport allows pupils to:

  • Gain new skills and develop talents
  • Improve their health, physical fitness and mental well-being
  • Build resilience and self-confidence
  • Develop trust, co-operation and teamwork
  • Learn how to compromise and communicate effectively
  • Understand the importance of fair play and good sportsmanship
  • Represent the school and/or their house in inter/intra-school competitions
  • Put the school's shared values in to practice
  • Enjoy themselves and have fun

PE and school sport is also proven to lift academic achievement and create active habits for life.

Since January 2018, Mr Rees has been employed as a sports coach.  In this role, he helps prepare teams for an ever-expanding programme of competitions and events.

Extra-curricular sport

Pupils at Bysing Wood Primary School are given the opportunity to take part in a wide range of extra-curricular sporting activities.

Opportunities include:

  • Lunchtime activities
  • After-school clubs
  • Intra-school competitions
  • Inter-school competitions and fixtures (including the Kent School Games)
  • Sports leadership training and practical experience

We are also keen to establish school-club links and encourage pupils to take part in sport outside of school.

Bysing Wood Primary School is an active member of The Herne Bay and East Kent Coastal School Sports Partnership.

Sport premium

Through a new sport premium the Government is providing £150 million in each of the next few years to support the delivery of PE and sport in primary schools.  The following report shows how we have used our funding this year.

This short-term loan facility is intended to help teachers, sports coaches and youth/community workers increase sports participation and create an awareness of healthy lifestyles through physical activities for general health promotion.

Pricing structure

Schools, sports clubs and youth/community groups wishing to borrow sports equipment will be asked to:

  • Pay an annual fee covering the period from 1st April to 31st March of £50.00 - This fee will be adjusted on a pro-rata monthly basis
  • Cover the cost of renewing any lost or damaged sports equipment
