Sport & P.E.

Provision for PE and sport has improved considerably at Bysing Wood Primary School in recent years.

Taking part in PE and school sport allows pupils to:

  • Gain new skills and develop talents
  • Improve their health, physical fitness and mental well-being
  • Build resilience and self-confidence
  • Develop trust, co-operation and teamwork
  • Learn how to compromise and communicate effectively
  • Understand the importance of fair play and good sportsmanship
  • Represent the school and/or their house in inter/intra-school competitions
  • Put the school's shared values (i.e. passion, belief, respect, honesty, determination and teamwork) in to practice
  • Enjoy themselves and have fun

PE and school sport is also proven to lift academic achievement and create active habits for life.

Since January 2018, Mr Rees has been employed as a sports coach.  In this role, he helps prepare teams for an ever-expanding programme of competitions and events.

Extra-curricular sport

Pupils at Bysing Wood Primary School are given the opportunity to take part in a wide range of extra-curricular sporting activities.

Opportunities include:

  • Lunchtime activities
  • After-school clubs
  • Intra-school competitions
  • Inter-school competitions and fixtures (including the Kent School Games)
  • Sports leadership training and practical experience

We are also keen to establish school-club links and encourage pupils to take part in sport outside of school.

Parents and carers can access information and resources to help their children lead happy and healthy lives by visiting https://www.youthsporttrust.org/family-hub.

Bysing Wood Primary School is an active member of The Herne Bay Sports Partnership and was chosen as Partnership School of the Year in 2018/19. We have also reached and sustained the School Games 'gold' standard since 2018.
